Ben's WX Summary
- Updated: Thursday @ 12:25pm
Our first storm has moved on performing as expected generating lots of rain across the area with little to no snow, except above 9,000 feet. Residual moisture today will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through this afternoon, even a little rain-snow mix is possible. Otherwise, partly cloudy, cool and breezy with highs in the lower 40s, southwest winds gusting 15-25 mph at times. Another storm system will move into our area late tonight and Friday, bringing one more round of rain, higher elevation snow, and strong gusty winds to 45 mph. The snow level is forecast to hover at or above 7,000 feet through much of the day Friday, lowering to around 6,000 feet later in the day. Additional rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches are likely, and I'm still optimistic we'll pick up a few inches of snow through Saturday morning, more at resort level and above 7,000 feet. Showers will taper off Friday night into Saturday with clearing skies over the weekend. Conditions will remain cold and breezy this weekend with highs in the 30s to around 40 degrees as lows drop into the 20s, which should provide a little better snowmaking weather for local resorts. Another storm is expected towards the middle of next week, with more unsettled weather likely into the New Year, but exact details are unknown at this time. Residents should be prepared for localized flooding in some areas with possible rock, debris, and mud slides below recent burn areas. Be sure to heed all evacuation warnings or orders and stay tuned to local media/emergency services. If traveling into the mountains throughout the holidays, be prepared for winter weather driving, as conditions will change rapidly. Pack extra food, water, warm clothing, and always carry chains!
